Paintings

Painting is a method of remembering. We create images the way that we remember they were perceived. There’s a natural inclination to paint representationally- to recreate the picture plane of the mind’s eye. But abstracted colors and shapes can also represent memories of what we’ve experienced.

A painting reveals the thoughts of the artist, through the medium of imagery. I am interested in pure abstracted conveyance of my thoughts, without the dilution of conventional representation. My paintings are schemes, in which I am required to follow rules and make decisions. I will deliberately introduce mistakes and then work to resolve them within the canvas-space. Sometimes I have to do things that make me uncomfortable, but this is part of the process.

I am interested in formula-based compositions, such as mandalas and hypermandalas. I also paint something that I call the “Bow of Odysseus” which is a flexible structure for receiving embellishment. My other works are usually studies of gravity and radiation and how they cooperate within a quantum. I rarely do figurative work and I do not feel obligated to create representational imagery.
